National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation we recognize the ongoing trauma caused by attending residential schools. On this day we commit to the process of truth, reconciliation, and justice across Canada for the survivors, families, and communities affected by the residential school system.
We encourage individuals to take action to heal and build a better future together. The following resources may help you to deepen your reflection, learning, and understanding.
Here is a list of credible sources where you can continue your ongoing commitment to learning and understanding:
- Read and understand the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action , focusing especially on actions 1 to 12 about child welfare.
- Download the Government of Canada’s mobile app Reconciliation: A Starting Point and learn more about Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
- Support our national community partner Indspire , an Indigenous national charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people.
We also recognize that Big Brothers Big Sisters is not an authoritative source. Rather, we have begun our own journey to help remove the colonial impact on generations of Indigenous children.
