Job type: Contract, one year maternity leave coverage (Hybrid role with 3 days a week required in London Office)
Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 annual salary (35 hours/week)

Position Summary:
As the Interim Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of London and Area, you will inspire those around you to fulfil the organization’s mission of creating life-changing mentoring relationships for young people in our community. While being accountable to the Board of Directors, you will work in partnership with them to ensure organizational growth and sustainability.
Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for implementing the newly designed strategic plan, providing leadership to your team of 11 employees to achieve organizational objectives that align with the strategy.
You will be one of 80+ BBBS Executive Directors across the country, collaborating to leverage regional, provincial and national initiatives that contribute to program development and financial growth.
About BBBSOLA:
For over 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area (BBSOLA) has been providing the gold standard of mentoring programs to young people in our community, so that all youth facing adversity can reach their full potential. We do this by matching children ages 7-17 with a caring adult volunteer who makes a commitment to meet every week for at least one year.
Our work is driven by our national Theory of Change which demonstrates that when a young person with adversity is matched with a mentor and they create a developmental relationship, the young person will have: 1) increased mental health and wellbeing; 2) better social and emotional competence; and 3) improved educational engagement and employment readiness.
BBBSOLA is a not for profit charitable organization serving youth facing adversaries in London, Ontario.
Responsibilities:
Board Governance
- Work with the board to implement the newly refreshed strategic plan, involving staff and other key stakeholders throughout the process
- Provide sufficient information to the board to ensure it can evaluate the operations of the organization including ensuring the board is apprised of any potential risks.
- Support the board in its work, including nominations, recruitment, development and evaluation processes
- Support the board as it transitions to a structured policy governance system.
Annual Operational Planning
- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop an annual operational plan that is aligned with the strategic plan and within the means of the annual budget
- Present the operational plan to both the board and staff to create both cohesiveness and commitment across the organization
- Report regularly to the board on the progress of the operational plan in meeting strategic objectives
Financial Management
- Work with the leadership team and finance committee to develop and work within the means of an annual operating budget
- Support the board treasurer in providing a financial report to the board on a regular basis
- Bring forward any identified needs for capital expenditures to the financial planning process
Organizational Development
- Assess the organizational structure to ensure that it reflects strategic and operational goals and adapt accordingly
- Define the responsibilities of the leadership team
- Seek innovative solutions and systems, particularly related to IT, that contribute to organizational growth
Human Resources
- Provide effective leadership to staff through strong and timely communication, clear expectations, and the provision of adequate resources
- Motivate staff through high visibility and a caring, people-centered approach
- Ensure effective succession planning for key roles in the organization
Performance Management
- Implement and oversee the annual performance management system for all staff aligned with strategic priorities
- Support supervisors in providing ongoing and timely feedback to staff
Corporate Policy
- Ensure organizational compliance with Big Brothers Big Sisters national standards and applicable legislation
- Review and update local organizational and governance policies and practices
Fundraising
- Oversee the development and implementation of an annual fundraising strategy
- Provide excellent donor stewardship and recognition to attract new donors and retain existing ones
- Lead and support special event committees and the fund development committee
- Create a culture of philanthropy across the organization
Marketing & Communications
- Oversee the development and implementation of an annual marketing and communications strategy to primarily support fundraising and volunteer recruitment initiatives
External Relations
- Serve as the key spokesperson for BBBSOLA
- Develop meaningful partnerships with corporations, government, and community organizations
- Work with committees and supporters to help raise BBBS’s presence in the London community
- Effectively manage reputational risk and opportunities
Service Delivery
- Provide support to the manager of programs to ensure the service delivery team has the information and resources they need to fulfil their duties
- Develop a solid understanding of the organization’s programs and systems to ensure ongoing quality improvement and child safety
- Use a data-driven approach to decision-making
Competencies:
- Genuine belief in the role that Big Brothers Big Sisters can play in creating a better community for us all
- Areas of expertise including: strategic planning, board governance, fund development, financial and human resources management, outcome evaluation, and communications, and public relations
- Post-secondary education
- Fund development and donor relations experience is a MUST
- Must be in an active management position and have experience leading teams
- Experience with policy governance is an asset
- A systems-thinker who filters ideas through well‐defined strategic directions to achieve business goals
- Experience building positive, productive relationships with people and organizations that represent diverse communities
- Experience supporting diversity, equity and inclusion within an organization
- Experience working with a CRM system or similar databases
- Ability to motivate people to take action through exceptional writing and speaking
- Strong HR skills, particularly dealing with turnover, hiring, and onboarding new staff
- Ability to use data to drive decisions
- Passionate, open-minded and results‐driven
