Meet Elika, our Big of the Month! Originally from Richmond Hill, Elika is a third-year student at Western University, studying Business Legal Studies. She hopes to pursue a career in law, focusing on foster care reform or immigration. Outside of school, she enjoys going to the gym, watching movies, and spending time with friends.
Elika decided to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters because of her passion for working with kids. While she had never participated in a one-on-one mentorship program before, she knew that becoming a Big would be an incredibly rewarding experience. “Being able to create such meaningful and genuine connections has been amazing, and I’m so glad to have had this opportunity,” she shares.
One of the things Elika’s Little appreciates most about her is the safe and supportive space she creates. “It’s always a no-judgment zone. She feels comfortable coming to me with any issue—small or big—and knows that I’m always there to support her.”
One of their most memorable moments together was preparing for her Little’s school talent show. They spent an afternoon in the gym picking songs, practicing dances, and bonding over their shared love of music. “It was such a fun experience—we got to goof off, listen to music, and just enjoy the moment together.”
Elika is grateful for the opportunity to be a mentor and has learned so much over the past year. “Ensuring my Little feels supported is my greatest priority. This experience has been so rewarding, and I’m honored to be recognized as Big of the Month!”
Thank you, Elika, for your dedication and the positive impact you make!
