Small Moments, Big Impact

Meet Jordana, our December Big of the Month!

We’re excited to celebrate Jordana as our December Big of the Month!

Born and raised in Brazil, Jordana first came to Canada in 2012 to study English in Calgary and complete an internship at UBC in Vancouver as part of her PhD. In 2017, she moved to London to continue her research as a postdoctoral fellow at Western University. Today, she works as an audiologist in a private clinic, helping people improve their hearing and communication. Outside of work, Jordana enjoys biking, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Jordana’s caring spirit and passion for helping others are what led her to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters. “I always enjoyed working with children and wanted to connect with my community in a meaningful way,” she says. “Big Brothers Big Sisters combines mentorship, compassion, and personal growth, which are all values that are very important to me.”

Her match with her Little has been full of creativity and connection. “I think my Little appreciates that I listen and am open to her ideas,” Jordana shares. “She is very creative, and I make sure to give her space to express that. When we play UNO or Jenga, we often create new rules every week. I want her to know that her thoughts and ideas matter.”

One of Jordana’s favourite memories is the day they made clay sculptures and her Little created a carnivorous plant. “She amazes me every time with her imagination,” Jordana recalls. “I want her to always feel free to try new things and believe she can succeed.”

For Jordana, the recognition as Big of the Month is an honour. “I think I deserve this award because I’ve been supportive, caring, and truly invested in my Little’s growth and happiness,” she says. “Volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, and I’m proud to contribute to building stronger futures.”

Thank you, Jordana, for your compassion, creativity, and dedication to mentorship. You are making a lasting difference.
