Kavin moved to Canada on his own in 2022, a courageous step that shaped much of who he is today. With a background in automotive engineering and Human Resources, he currently works as a manager at Walmart, where he focuses on leadership, team development, and day to day operations. He is also exploring the next steps in his HR career. Outside of work, Kavin is both creative and active. He enjoys playing tennis, badminton, squash, softball, and volleyball. He is also a professional contemporary dancer and expresses himself through sketching, line drawing, and self portrait photography.
Kavin chose to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters because he understands how meaningful steady support can be, especially during times of change. Moving to a new country alone taught him the importance of having someone who listens without judgment and believes in your potential. “I wanted to be that steady presence for a young person as he grows and figures out who he is,” he shares.
In his match, Kavin focuses on being approachable and genuinely present. He listens carefully, takes his Little’s interests seriously, and meets him where he is. Whether they are talking about anime, trying new activities, or simply having open conversations, Kavin creates a space where his Little feels comfortable being himself.
One of their most memorable moments happened during their first attempt at painting together. Neither had much experience, and the results did not quite match their expectations. They found themselves laughing and comparing their artwork to an “expectations versus reality” meme. It was a lighthearted moment that captured what mentorship is really about, building connection and enjoying time together without pressure.
Kavin feels honoured to be recognized as Big of the Month. He approaches mentorship with sincerity and consistency, always aiming to make a meaningful impact. For him, this recognition reflects not just his effort, but the strength of the relationship he and his Little have built together.
