Avery is a fourth year student at Western University in the Health Sciences program. She has always loved working with children and knew she wanted to find a meaningful way to support young people in her community. Outside of school, Avery enjoys baking, spending time outdoors, hiking, swimming, and being around dogs.
Her decision to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters was inspired both by her love for children and by her dad, who was previously a Big Brother himself. “I thought this was a great opportunity to spend time with children while also giving back to my community,” she shares.
Since becoming a mentor, Avery has focused on creating a strong and supportive connection with her mentee. She takes a genuine interest in his hobbies, interests, and favourite activities, always making sure their time together is meaningful and fun. Whether they are playing games, trying sports, or simply spending time talking, Avery creates an environment where her mentee feels comfortable and encouraged.
One of Avery’s favourite memories together was building a gingerbread house before winter break. “He was so excited and eager to help,” Avery recalls. “I loved seeing him so happy and being able to work on something together.”
Avery is dedicated to supporting her mentee’s confidence, creativity, and personal growth. Through patience, kindness, and consistency, she continues to make a positive impact each week.
We are proud to celebrate Avery and the care she brings to mentorship through Big Brothers Big Sisters.
