For many people, Rock the Park means live music, summer nights, and coming together in the heart of London. What concertgoers may not always see is the incredible community effort happening behind the scenes.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area is proud to be one of the designated charities that helps make Rock the Park possible. Each night, between 60 and 100 volunteers support beverage service and ticket sales throughout the festival. Their time and energy help the event run smoothly while contributing to life-changing mentoring programs for local children and youth.
An Unexpected Change to the Festival
This year's Rock the Park looked a little different. Wildfire smoke and unsafe air quality led to the difficult decision to end Tuesday's festivities early and cancel Wednesday's performances.
We know how disappointing those changes were for concertgoers, artists, volunteers, organizers, and everyone who worked so hard to bring the festival to life. We also know it was the right decision. The health and safety of staff, volunteers, patrons, and our community had to come first.
Despite the unexpected circumstances, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who showed up, adapted, and continued to support the festival. Friday and Saturday brought the energy back to Harris Park, and our volunteers once again demonstrated the generosity and community spirit that make Rock the Park so special.
The Ripple Effect for Mentoring
Rock the Park is more than a music festival for Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area. It is also one of our most important annual fundraising partnerships.
Each year, the proceeds we receive from Rock the Park help fund mentoring programs that connect children and youth with caring adult mentors. Last year, the event contributed $75,000 toward our mission, making a meaningful impact on our ability to serve local young people.
Because of this year's weather-related cancellations, we are still waiting to learn what the overall impact on fundraising will be. While that uncertainty remains, we continue to be grateful to Jones Entertainment for their longstanding partnership and to everyone who supports this community event year after year.
