Halle has always known she wanted to help others. Raised in a small town by her grandparents alongside her two younger sisters, she grew up in a community where opportunities and resources were limited. When she moved to London to attend Western University, she discovered Big Brothers Big Sisters and found a meaningful way to turn her passion into action.
Now entering her fifth year at Western University after completing an Honours Specialization in Psychology, Halle is spending the summer working on a research project that explores how environmental conditions influence childhood development. Her studies have only strengthened what she already believed: with the right support, every young person has the potential to thrive.
“I fell in love with the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Halle says. “I believe that supporting young people through adversity can make a lasting difference and help them find their voice.”
Over the past three years, Halle has built a meaningful relationship with her Little through shared interests, trust, and consistency. They enjoy simple moments together, whether it’s eating chocolate chip cookies, watching movies, visiting the dog park, or admiring a beautiful sunset. More importantly, Halle creates a space where her Little feels understood. She recognizes that sometimes being together quietly, or listening to a favourite song on repeat, can be just as meaningful as any planned activity.
One of Halle’s favourite memories took place during a visit to the YMCA. Neither of them felt comfortable wearing a bathing suit, so they decided to swim in shorts and T-shirts instead. They spent the afternoon inventing games, playing with water toys, and laughing together. It was a reminder that confidence grows when we feel accepted for exactly who we are.
When reflecting on being named Big of the Month, Halle focuses less on individual acts and more on consistency. Throughout her match, she has gone above and beyond to advocate for her Little, provide support during difficult times, and ensure she always has someone she can count on. Whether that meant traveling across the city for visits, helping connect her with additional supports, or simply showing up week after week, Halle has remained committed to building a relationship founded on trust and care.
For Halle, mentorship is about meeting a young person where they are, celebrating who they are today, and believing in who they can become tomorrow. We are proud to recognize her dedication, compassion, and the lasting impact she continues to make.
